Effect of Domperidone on Children with Functional Abdominal Pain: A Randomized Controlled Clinical Trial

Background: One of the most common functional problems in children is abdominal pain (FAP), and dysmotility one possible causes FAP. Domperidone a prokinetic drug that increases gastrointestinal motility. Objectives: The aim this study was to evaluate effect domperidone on treatment FAP children. Methods: In double-blind clinical trial study, diagnosed 80 aged 5 - 14 years, who were referred Amirkola Children's Hospital Babol for year based criteria Rome IV. Then, they randomly divided into two groups 40 patients. Group A received tablets (0.25 mg/kg, three-time/day) months, group B placebo. primary outcome at least 50% reduction both frequency severity pain, secondary significant duration, frequency, intensity according Wong-Baker scale compared baseline. Results: total completed (40 with domperidone). recovery rate higher than placebo after eight weeks (71.8% vs. 28.2%; P < 0.0001), had superiority over reducing duration (4.58 ± 7.71 24.5 41.45, min/day, 0.001), (3.35 3.99 10.63 10.55, episode/week, (2.20 2.16 5.05 2.37, 0.001) pain.
